IT'S LANDED: THE UK's FIRST CERTIFIED CONTRAST THERAPY INSTRUCTOR PROGRAMME

Trained to guide the body through heat
and cold, with
confidence and
evidence.

A pioneering Instructor course for practitioners who want to bring science-backed contrast therapy to clients of every age and health background, in the UK and beyond.

Contrast therapy is growing fast across the UK and beyond, with impressive new thermal suites opening all the time. Yet the industry itself remains unregulated, and a real knowledge gap exists around how to guide people through it effectively and safely. Temperature, timing, sequencing, frequency and breathing all need proper consideration, and right now, that expertise isn't the norm. This Instructor programme exists to close that gap.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Protocols built for real bodies, not just brave ones.

Contrast

Alternating heat-and-cold protocols

How to sequence and pace exposure so it works with the body's stress response, not against it.

Heat only

When heat alone is the right call

Reading a client's history and know when contrast isn't appropriate, and heat does the job on its own. How to use post-exercise sauna protocols to boost sporting performance.

Cold only

When cold alone is the right call

The same judgement, applied the other direction. Cold alone, can be an effective sporting recovery tool and daily practice to support certain mental health conditions.

All clients

Adapting for age and health status

Practical modifications across a wide range of health conditions, including how to introduce contrast therapy to clients in their midlife as a tool for vitality and longevity.

THE SCIENCE

What happens in the body, and in your cells

Contrast therapy is a major reset, a sensory experience that gets you out of your head and into your body. It also sets off a measurable chain of physiological events: in circulation, in the nervous system, in the way the mind processes stress, both during the exposure and in the hours that follow.

You'll learn the mechanisms behind that response in enough depth to explain them credibly to a client, and enough clarity to recommend protocols suited to them.

HOW THE CERTIFIED PROGRAMME WORKS

Online first.

In-person second.

Build the knowledge before you lead the experience. Then practise the craft in a supervised in-person setting.

Phase 1

Online learning and assessment

Work through the core curriculum at your own pace: protocol design, physiology, client screening and safety, with assessment built in to confirm you're ready for the workshop.

Phase 2

3 day in-person training

Hands-on practice, live coaching and real client scenarios, alongside special guests from the worlds of thermal therapy and performance psychology.

Phase 3

Ready to deliver

Leave with the confidence, structure and practical tools to deliver safe, effective contrast therapy experiences for your own clients.

Instructors will be trained to deliver Thermal Advantage signature sessions, as well as thermal experiences of your own. These signature experiences include: Sauna & Breath Ritual, Sauna & Stretch, Contrast Therapy inductions, a full Contrast Therapy Immersion, Cold Water inductions and Rose's pioneering Cold Water Masterclass.

WHY TRAIN WITH US

Led by Rose Unwin

The Thermal Advantage was created and is taught by Rose Unwin, a Performance & Recovery Coach and founder of Rose Unwin Wellness in Gloucestershire.

Rose started using heat and cold around ten years ago, while training for half Ironman triathlons. She wanted better recovery, deeper sleep and a way to manage stress. Long before she owned professional-grade cold tubs and a sauna, she was experimenting at home in her own bathroom.

Since then, she has guided more than 600 people through contrast therapy, aged 12 to 82. They range from curious first-timers to Olympic athletes.

Her formal training took her to Sweden and Ireland, where she learned from world-leading experts in cold, heat and breath. This course isn’t built on any single method, though. It brings together years of learning across neuroscience, physiology, sleep science, breathwork and performance psychology. All of it has been shaped by what Rose has seen work, session after session, with real people.

In her clinic, Rose uses evidence-based heat and cold protocols. Each one is chosen to suit the individual and how they’re feeling that day. That thinking sits at the heart of this course: contrast therapy done well, never to extremes.

Rose is especially passionate about introducing contrast therapy to people in their 50s and 60s, as a way to support quality of life in the decades that matter most.

Workshop response

“I took part in a thermal workshop with work colleagues and wow, what an awesome experience. Rose’s extensive knowledge and insight into the science, combined with her calm, natural approach, put everyone at ease.”

SPECIAL GUESTS

You'll be joined by specialists in performance psychology and thermal stress.

Patrick trained Rose as an Advanced OA Instructor. He has given Rose permission to teach an OA breathing technique within the program. This will bring the nervous system into balance and open up the airways.
